Harvest Time at NYCHA’s Farms

Harvest Time at NYCHA’s Farms

Green City Force (GCF) is spreading autumnal cheer by hosting harvest festivals at the six Farms at NYCHA at Forest, Wagner, Howard, Mariner’s Harbor, Bay View, and Red Hook Houses.

The first Harvest Fest was held at Forest Houses on September 28. Residents enjoyed the festivities, which included fun activities for children such as pumpkin picking and carving, face painting, bobbing for apples, and a bouncy house. The festival also featured healthy dishes made by GCF Corps Members with produce harvested from the farm. There was also music, performances, dancing, and raffles.

GCF is an AmeriCorps program for urban youth ages 18 to 24 who participate in full-time service projects while receiving education on sustainability and green technologies, a stipend, free transportation, help with job and college placement, and more. GCF Corps Members helped build NYCHA’s farms, which they also manage.

Harvest Fest Schedule:

Wagner Houses Farm, October 5

Howard Houses Farm, October 12

Mariner’s Harbor Houses Farm, October 19

Bay View Houses Farm, October 26

Red Hook Houses Farm, TBD
